Elevate your student experience and engagement with the Dashboard Feed
Xello Dashboard Feed is set to enhance the 6-12 student experience and increase engagement within the platform.
Dashboard Feed transforms and elevates the current experience by providing students with personalized college, career, and lifestyle content, videos, and new resources that fuel their curiosity and get them excited about their next steps.
Introduction: What is the new Dashboard Feed?
Dashboard Feed is Xello’s most engaging feature yet and will provide students with content that has been personalized to their interests, saved careers, and schools. Instead of sifting through the endless college and career-related information accessible to them on the internet, Dashboard Feed provides videos, articles, podcasts, and other forms of content that has been selected for students by our team. The content is focused and familiar, providing students the opportunity to explore and discover with intentionality.
Additionally, students will continue to be able to keep track of all their work in Xello, like lesson progress, learn more about their options after graduation, and gain a deeper understanding of the topics that interest them the most, so they feel empowered to make informed decisions about their futures.
Giving students a dashboard experience they’ll love
With Dashboard Feed, students get:
Customization
The content that appears on their dashboard is tailored to their interests and saved options. They can easily follow and unfollow different areas of interest and stay up-to-date with the topics that matter most to them. “Personalized learning can enhance engagement by providing learners with content tailored to their interests and needs. This can increase their motivation to learn, leading to a more enjoyable and fulfilling learning experience,” says Joseph Evanick in his article about the benefits of personalized learning.
Engaging content
With videos and fresh content designed to look and feel like familiar platforms, students will be more motivated to log into Xello. The content includes fun facts about topics that matter to students and helpful advice on transitioning to adulthood. The best news for educators and parents is that all content has been carefully vetted to ensure it’s trustworthy and age appropriate.
Guidance on next steps
The user-friendly lesson progress bar allows students to monitor their progress and effortlessly pick up where they left off. For those who are unsure about their post-graduation plans, Dashboard Feed offers valuable information to help them make well-informed decisions about their future. When students are in charge of monitoring their own progress, “they develop self-regulation and can set more ambitious goals.”
What does this mean for you?
For educators, Dashboard Feed helps expand your curriculum and create meaningful conversations about important life topics, so you can equip your students with the knowledge they need to navigate post-graduation opportunities with confidence. It is also worth mentioning that educators will not have extra work transitioning to the new platform, as all of the resources and links they currently use will still exist on the dashboard. This will make for a seamless transition to the new experience.
Increase student engagement with the Dashboard Feed
The layout of the Dashboard Feed meets students where they are. By creating a feed that’s look and feel is familiar to social media feeds they use today, students will be more likely to engage within the Xello platform and be confident in their future choices. Research has found that students learn more from video-based learning, which explains why YouTube is so popular with students. According to a recent study, viewers who watched a video retained 95% of the information, opposed to only 10% by those who read the material. Students find videos to be more engaging than traditional texts, and that affects how they best learn new material.
“Students are most engaged when their work honors their experiences, connects to their interests, and has the potential to lead them to improvement of themselves, their lives, and issues that matter to them,” says Beth Pandolpho in “Connecting Content to Students’ Lives to Boost Engagement.”
When it comes to the new Dashboard Feed, the findings on engagement from our pilot in Kansas are promising. Not only did engagement increase on the Dashboard Feed, but also across the rest of Xello. It was found that in a 90 day period of time, each student:
- Logged into Xello an average of 4.35 times. This was 7.6% higher than the same period in 2022.
- Viewed the dashboard an average of 16.24 times, which is 11.2% higher than the same period in 2022.
- Viewed an average of 93.78 pages, 10.5% more than the same period in the previous year.
The students in Kansas shared their reactions to the Dashboard Feed in research collected by Xello. Here’s how a 10th grade student answered the following questions:
When do you find yourself using the Dashboard Feed?
“When I want to learn more about something, or a lot of times in class, we’ll do activities on it to try to learn more about ourselves or if we find something interesting.”
What do you like about having diversity in the content that you see?
“I feel like sometimes when you’re choosing what you want to do when you’re older, you’re influenced a lot on what surrounds you. So, you might just have that on your mind. But then you see other ideas and you’re like hmm, maybe that’s actually what I want to do.”
So far, the top 5 types of content pieces students are interacting most with:
- Day in the life
- Tips & advice
- Steps to get there
- Facts trivia & knowledge
- Weighing options
